A FREE bus ride to go balik kampung without having to brave a crowded bus terminal and facing possible sold-out tickets during the festivity sounds like a great Hari Raya gift. Some 96 lucky Suria FM listeners recently received this gift when they signed up for the free bus rides promotion, sponsored by Munchy’s. Three buses, bearing large Munchy’s advertisements on them, were chartered to go to Penang, Kota Baru and Johor Baru in a Suria FM’s ‘Jom Balik Kampung Bersama Munchy’s’ campaign.
An avid Suria FM listener, 23-year-old Syazila Rahman said the free ride was a great deal, as she did not have to put up with the hassle of buying bus tickets. She said her biggest worry was not getting bus tickets and getting into a crowded bus terminal to look for them. “However, now the worry is over. The tickets by Suria FM, which I got by registering in their website, are a Godsend. “Besides the tickets, we also received goodie bags from Suria FM and Munchy’s and a packet of duit raya, so of course we are delighted,” said Syazila, who was going back to Johor Baru with her friend Zulhair Mohd Kipli, 24.
Syazila and Zulhair were among the many Suria FM listeners who gathered at KTM building in Kuala Lumpur last week before their journey. Also present at the event were Suria FM crew, headed by chief operating officer Engku Emran Engku Zainal Abidin, Munchy’s representatives and some local celebrities like Nubhan, Farawahida, Fazli Zainal and Nadia AF.Engku Emran said the annual programme received tremendous response from listeners, but seats were limited and given on a fist-come, first-served basis. He said the radio station planned to increase the number of buses next year. “We noticed that the popular destinations are still Penang, Kota Baru and Johor Baru, so due to demand, we are thinking of increasing the number of buses to one or two more for next year,” he said.
