Quality Reassured – Munchy’s Awarded ISO 22000 Certification

Biscuit Manufacturers’ Processes and Quality Control Recognised


Johor, 24 November 2009 – Malaysia’s No.1 homegrown biscuit brand* today announced that it has been awarded ISO 22000 certification for its state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Batu Pahat. ISO 22000 is an internationally-recognised food safety management system that is based on the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles, providing a logical and efficient framework with which food hazards can be identified, controlled and most importantly prevented.

Food safety is the first and foremost priority for Munchy’s as its consumers’ well-being is its topmost concern. Furthermore, since the company markets and distributes its fun-eating snacks to approximately 60 countries around the world, efforts are consistently made to ensure that its products boast the highest quality and safety levels to meet the needs of its myriad of consumers.

Having first been awarded ISO 9001 certification more than 6 years ago, and adhering to a sound HACCP process for over 5 years, Munchy’s has now gone a step further to ensure the operations of its plant as well as its processes are in compliance with the highest standards currently available. With the ISO 22000 certification, Munchy’s now further assures its food safety levels for consumers by:

  1. Implementing the prerequisite programme called the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  2. Completing risk assessment on biological, physical and chemical agents.
  3. Putting in place a continued improvement programme.

The ISO 22000 also sets in place additional control points to increase consumers’ peace of mind in terms of food safety.

With these additional processes in place, Munchy’s will now be able to identify potential hazards and rectify them at the planning stages, thus improving overall processes while reducing risk and waste.

Ng added, “The ISO 22000 certification is testimony to us always striving for excellence and upping the ante while anticipating our consumers’ needs and constantly staying a step ahead of their expectations.”

Munchy’s state-of-the-art production plant and warehousing facilities cover more than 400,000 sq ft in Batu Pahat, Johor, Malaysia. The total built-up area of these facilities totals more than 300,000 sq ft and is outfitted with:

  • 2 wafer plants with the capacity to manufacture up to 740 tons per month;
  • 4 biscuit plants which can produce up to 3,400 tons per month and;
  • 4 wafer stick machines with 16 production lines that have the capacity to produce up to 250 tons per month.
